Interactive & effective ways to enable learning of Numeracy & Mathematics
The move away from Key and Basic Skills to Functional Skills, coupled with the 2012 Inspection Framework has put more emphasis than ever before on the need for teachers and trainers to deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment and also to have a thorough understanding of Numeracy, Literacy and ICT themselves.
The removal of multiple-choice answers and the introduction of broader subject settings for the final Functional Skills examination means teachers and trainers now need the skills to enable learners to understand theory and apply it in any setting; with Numeracy and Mathematics this can be a real challenge.
This one-day workshop is about the delivery of Numeracy and Mathematics. Delegates from all levels of involvement and responsibility will explore how Numeracy and Mathematics can be delivered in an interactive, effective and fun way. In a day packed full of activities and discussion, participants will experience real creativity, with a wealth of strategies, resources and approaches.
In addition to the core focus - how to support learners effectively in developing their maths/numeracy skills - the workshop also provides an opportunity for participants to become more confident in their own knowledge of, and approach to, teaching Numeracy and Mathematics; helping them to develop their skills whilst providing examples of good practice for those tasked with observing the teaching and training of Numeracy and Mathematics.
This workshop will be of interest to representatives from all organisations delivering learning. It is especially suited to those delivering numeracy and mathematics skills either as a course or where embedded in vocational qualifications; also for those responsible for the quality of teaching in Numeracy and Mathematics, providing peer support or observing lessons in this area.
Aims and Objectives

2. What makes a good Numeracy/Mathematics Teacher/Trainer
Session 2 considers the skills and attributes that make a highly effective numeracy/mathematics teacher/trainer and demonstrates, through practical exercises, simple techniques and approaches that enable effective assessment of the teacher/trainers’ core skills set.

3. Effective strategies for teaching Numeracy/Mathematics
This session covers a significant part of the day and focuses on fun and interactive pedagogical approaches when teaching numeracy/mathematics skills. The range of approaches and techniques used will provide opportunities for the sharing of good practice and comparison with existing practice. Equipped with this variety of methods and activities, participants will have greater confidence in their ability to teach, enjoyably and effectively for the learners, a selection of maths/numeracy topics across the breadth of the curriculum.

Internal Staff Training and Development
This training workshop, along with most of our other best practice training workshops, can be delivered as an internal training course at your premises. Even with groups as small as 6-8 delegates, the course fees per person for internal training workshops can be lower than for open events. The potential savings are even greater, if the travel time and the travel costs of the delegates are included.
Running training workshops internally is very convenient and it allows the participants to explore how key issues will impact on them and their organization. Then as a team they can begin to agree upon a development action plan, with priorities. Certificates of Professional Development.
This course is recognised for CPD purposes by most professional institutes and associations including the Law Society, the CIM, the CMI, the ICAEW, the Institute of Learning and the CIPD. Formal Certificates of Professional Development will be issued by email to participants who successfully complete this course. These certificates will enable participants to evidence the update of their CPD records. The workshop will consider how to best apply the knowledge gained by the delegates upon their return to the workplace.
