Hints, Tips & Guidance on writing & updating SARs to the 2012 Ofsted CIF
Whilst the SAR is not required by the SFA, it is still used by Ofsted during annual risk assessment and inspection.
All providers should ensure their SAR and QIP remain current. SARs and/or QIPs that are old, weak and/or out of date can adversely influence Ofsted's risk assessment, could bring inspection forward and might even ultimately limit the grade awarded for "Effectiveness of Leadership and Management".
This one-day good practice workshop is designed to help FE & Skills Sector Providers update their existing Self-Assessment processes, Self-Assessment Reports and Quality Improvement Plans to better meet the structure of the frameworks and approaches post September 2012.
The Provider Self-Assessment Report is still a pivotal document - it plays a significant part in performance review, contract renewal and continuous improvement. Although no longer a contractual requirement from funders, it is much used by Ofsted when scheduling inspections. It helps to determine when, how and by whom organisations should be inspected and on which specific areas of a Provider's provision the Inspection should focus.
Where the findings of the SAR are not supported by Inspection it reflects poorly on the Leadership and Management and on curriculum grades. It is therefore imperative that all providers review their SAR submissions annually and ensure that the latest information is uploaded to the Provider Gateway.
For maximum benefit the SAR needs to focus on robust judgments, clearly evidencing continued improvement and should adopt a layout and style that mimics what inspectors are used to and expect to see.

This workshop is designed for those keen to gain advice and guidance on improving the quality of their self-assessment and reporting documents and/or meeting the demands of the latest 2012 inspection framework for the FE & Skills sector.
It is specifically designed for representatives from Providers and Organisations operating within the Further Education & Skills Sector, such as Apprenticeship Providers and FE/6th Form Colleges and related infrastructure organisations.
The workshop is not considered suitable for those working in or with in primary/secondary education schools.
It is also suited to those who have, or who are likely to have, responsibility for managing, updating and/or contributing to the SAR and QIP. This includes those tasked with training staff on the latest requirements for self-assessment and for those evaluating the quality of SARs/QIPs either internally or within third party organisations.

This session provides a structured process that enables participants to review and make robust judgement on the quality and validity of third party SARs and Action Plans. Internal Staff Training and Development
This training workshop, along with most of our other best practice training workshops, can be delivered as an internal training course at your premises. Even with groups as small as 6-8 delegates, the course fees per person for internal training workshops can be lower than for open events. The potential savings are even greater, if the travel time and the travel costs of the delegates are included.
Running training workshops internally is very convenient and it allows the participants to explore how key issues will impact on them and their organization. Then as a team they can begin to agree upon a development action plan, with priorities. This course is recognised for CPD purposes by most professional institutes and associations including the Law Society, the CIM, the CMI, the ICAEW, the Institute of Learning and the CIPD.
