Hints, Tips & Guidance for those NEW to the SAR process
This one day good practice workshop is designed to help Learning and Skills Sector Providers who are NEW to Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Planning to better meet the Self -Assessment requirements of inspection and contracting bodies.
The emphasis in the CIF is on Self-Assessment and Action Planning which leads to “demonstrable improvements”. The SAR will not only be used during inspection, it also plays a significant part in the Ofsted risk assessment which will determine when, how and by whom organisations should be inspected. This process is intended to make the Ofsted inspection process less predictable.
High Quality, Robust Self Assessment is essential for success within the learning and skills sector but unfortunately far from easy to achieve, especially for those new to the sector and/or self assessment. The SAR and QIP are the pivotal documents used for continued improvement inspection and performance review – so no provider can afford to compromise the quality and most providers/managers new to inspection will benefit from high quality training and support.
This workshops provides concise guidance on how to self-assess, write high quality robust self- assessment reports (SARs) and Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs) that can both drive internal quality improvement that meet the standards expected during inspection and performance review.
Inspection leads times are now a maximum of just 3 weeks - almost compelling providers to ensure that their SAR remains current at all times.
For Whom
The workshop is designed for representatives from Providers and Organisations operating within the Further Education/Learning and Skills Sector, including Apprenticeship Providers, FE/6th Form Colleges and related infrastructure organisations who have little experience of writing and updating Self-Assessment Reports. It is especially useful for those having to produce an SAR for the first time.
The workshop is NOT considered suitable for representatives from primary/secondary education.
For those Experienced in Self-Assessment Reporting wanting to understand the latest requirements better, we recommend our related workshop: “Robust Self Assessment for the EXPERIENCED (Sept 2009 CIF)”

Certificates of Professional Development.
Formal Certificates of Development will be issued, by post, to participants who complete this workshop. These certificates will detail the key learning aims and the face-to-face learning hours undertaken, enabling participants to update their CPD records and logs accordingly. The workshop also allows time, during the day, for participants to reflect on and record their personal learning development and consider how best to apply the knowledge gained on return to work. This element of the programme is designed to maximise the benefits from attending and enable participants to make better review judgments when recording their CPD activities.
