Quality Assurance: Evaluating & Developing QA Systems  (WS4961)

Under-performing Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) arrangements are continuing features in Inspection Reports.  For providers to be successful during inspection, performance review and contract renewal, their QA and QI systems need to be robust enough to ensure that all aspects of programme delivery work effectively and produce the required results.  They also need to be structured and implemented in a way that enables the organisation to continually improve performance. Effective Quality systems are therefore, pivotal to success. 

This workshop explores what effective and robust QA and QI systems look like, how they should operate, and the results that should be achieved.  Delegates will also explore common issues and problems, discussing ways to overcome them to improve performance. The workshop will be delivered in a way that should enable delegates to identify specific action they can implement after the workshop, to enhance the quality assurance and improvement arrangements in their organisation.

As a result of attending this workshop participants will understand or better understand

  • the fundamentals of and rationale for quality assurance and improvement
  • the components of an effective and robust QA and QI system, and what constitutes good practice
  • the function of a QA Cycle within a QA and QI system.
  • the Key Processes and their importance within a QA system
  • how to measure the effectiveness of a QA and QI system, and the processes it regulates
  • common QA and QI system deficiencies and how to address them

This intense and highly interactive workshop has been designed for managers in education and training provider organisations who have responsibility for quality assurance/improvement and those with broader responsibility for managing organisational performance. It will be particularly useful for managers who are new into the QA/QI Manager and/or Co-ordinator role or who expect to be in such roles in the near future

Please note: This workshop is designed for the post-16, learning and skills sector.  Many of the issues and actions covered will also apply to other learning sectors including, for example secondary education, but time limits do not allow for any contextualisation for areas other than post-16 learning and skills
